No trip to California is complete without a night at The Surfrider Hotel in Malibu. Henry & I stayed here a year ago and I was so glad to be again, as it is still going strong at the top of best hotels we have ever experienced.

The rooftop bar is exclusive to guests so is never over crowded, while the view is one of the best in the biz, looking directly onto the beach & Malibu Pier. Surfrider also hosts the most delicious food & drink in California, (well at least in my food obsessed opinion). Honestly tastes like a slice of home (which is no wander as Emma, who is one half of this hotels creators, is from Byron Bay Area).

The owners Emma & Matt and all the staff here are a wealth of knowledge with ideas and tips on all surrounds, really well and truly such a lovely energy in this space and the people it attracts.

I could continue to rave about this place from location to interiors but please just do yourself a favour and spend a night of your life here.

EAT: At the hotel & no where else.

DO: Wander down the Malibu pier, great spot to watch the locals surfing.

Following day we started the drive up to Cambria, I actually didn’t take any photos of The Cambria Lodge we stayed but found this was the perfect base for a day trip to Big Sur as the drive was only about 1.5 hours and easy to stop on each corner for breathtaking views.

We luckily found ourselves on the back of a super bloom so wild flowers were still bright as anything.

EAT: Big Sur Bakery - we ate the most incredible lemon cake, chocolate biscuits, savoury scones & salad here it is an absolute must!

DO: Make it down to the beach for an icy refreshing dip that will be sure to wake you up!
